Cmdexa · Windows + ChatGPT
Find files on your Windows PC with ChatGPT
Use this when a file is on your Windows computer and you remember part of its name. Cmdexa gives ChatGPT access to the paired computer; a file uploaded to a chat does not require Cmdexa.
Example request
Use Cmdexa on my online Windows PC. In C:\Work\Invoices, find files whose names contain “invoice” and were modified in the last 30 days. Search only this folder and its subfolders. Show up to 20 matches with full paths, sizes and modification dates. Do not change anything.
Replace C:\Work\Invoices with the folder you want to search. Start with Read only access. For file-content search, specify which permitted text files to inspect; document formats may need an available extraction tool.
What should happen
- ChatGPT checks your paired devices and selects the online computer.
- It requests a bounded search within the specified folder.
- It reports actual matches, a clear no-match result or a permission/error message. It must not invent filenames or claim it searched an offline PC.
Keep the search focused
Begin with a known work folder rather than an entire drive. Do not ask for credentials or private system stores. Returned filenames and any file contents that are read go to your AI provider. Read how data is handled.
