Windows installer 0.6.275 · 2.0 MB · signed by Paweł Meller. Install or update without a pairing code. Updates keep your connection; new installations can connect later from your Cmdexa account. About download warnings.
Create your account, install on the computer you control, then connect ChatGPT. You can start with read-only access.
Sign in with Google and review the terms and privacy policy. Choose Read only or Read and run, then select Create pairing code in your account.
Create or open your account →Download the installer above and approve Windows administrator access. You can leave the pairing fields empty to install now and connect later. Updates keep the existing connection and settings. To connect a new computer, run the paired installer from your account. The account page also offers a copy-ready PowerShell setup block.
Connect your computer →Open the published Cmdexa plugin in ChatGPT and connect it with the same Google account. Review the requested access, then ask ChatGPT: “List my Cmdexa devices.” If the plugin is not available to your account yet, use the manual MCP fallback below.
Open the Cmdexa plugin → Manual fallback instructions →Manual MCP fallback: If the published plugin is unavailable to your account but custom MCP connections are permitted, follow OpenAI's connection guide. Create a custom connection named Cmdexa using OAuth and this server URL:https://relay.cmdexa.com/mcp
Keep pairing codes and setup commands on your own computer. Do not paste them into a chat. Already connected? Use the existing connection instead of creating duplicates.
What you can ask
Start with an online, paired computer and a folder you choose. These are example requests, not recorded customer results.
“Find invoice files in my work folder. Show their paths and dates. Do not change anything.”
See the file-search prompt →“Propose a plan to sort this folder into PDFs, spreadsheets and images. Wait for my approval before moving files.”
See the preview-and-approve workflow →“Read the last part of this build log, explain the error and suggest the next check. Do not run a fix.”
See the log-reading prompt →A first task
Ask ChatGPT to list your Cmdexa devices. Once your computer is online, ask it to inspect a log or check a project in the workspace you allow.
For work that changes your computer, enable Read and run access and review any local approval prompt. Task results return to your AI provider.

A Windows PC that can run the 64-bit agent, administrator access for installation, an internet connection, and a Google account for Cmdexa. Use a ChatGPT plan and workspace that can access the published Cmdexa plugin (or custom MCP connections as a fallback); available actions depend on OpenAI's plan and permissions. Cmdexa's Windows agent stays running while you work.
Cmdexa is free during the current beta for adults acting in a business or professional capacity. No Cmdexa subscription or checkout is required. This is not a promise of permanent free access. It may have bugs or interruptions. Your ChatGPT subscription and plugin access requirements are separate. See pricing and requirements and read the beta terms.
No. Permitted read-only operations and safe read commands can run automatically. Other actions depend on your device permissions and Cmdexa's safety policy, and may require a local Windows approval or be blocked. ChatGPT can also show its own confirmation prompts.
ChatGPT controls its own approval prompts. These are separate from Cmdexa's local Windows approvals. If "Allow for this conversation" is not remembered, first check whether ChatGPT is asking to approve a different action or a higher-risk operation. If the same prompt repeats, check the app permissions in ChatGPT Settings (Apps or Plugins, then Cmdexa, Connected accounts or Permissions, depending on the interface). Your personal account may offer individual app permissions; availability and wording vary by plan.
For a ChatGPT Business workspace, an administrator may instead open Workspace settings > Plugins > Cmdexa > Permissions. In eligible interfaces you can choose whether ChatGPT asks every time, allows reads, permits low-risk actions, or offers "Allow all actions". That last option grants ChatGPT much broader access (elevated risk): choose it only if you deliberately want this, trust the connected computer and understand the effects. You can keep a more restrictive option and continue approving individual actions.
App permissions do not remove Cmdexa's separate device policies or local Windows approvals. Repeated ChatGPT prompts may be a ChatGPT permission problem, not a Cmdexa bug; for persistent identical prompts, contact OpenAI Support. Before retrying a command that could change files or data, check whether the earlier task already ran, to avoid duplicate effects.
A “not commonly downloaded” message is a reputation check for new software, not a malware detection by itself. A signature identifies the publisher; it does not guarantee that a file is safe. Other security warnings may have different causes.
Download only from Cmdexa. Check the file's Digital Signatures tab for Paweł Meller, and compare its SHA-256 with the release manifest. The SHA-256 is in the button's tooltip and shown here:f76d52169d4847cf5b539e5a44d1f3ea9addef2c29c9240f0b7cf77f48a063a2If a signature or hash does not match, do not run the file; contact support.
A ChatGPT tool timeout does not necessarily mean the Windows agent stopped. Ask Cmdexa to list devices and check their connection state. If a task already started, ask for its status or result before starting it again, especially if it changes files.
Closing Chrome can interrupt ChatGPT's response even while Cmdexa remains running. After reopening the chat, select Cmdexa and ask for the existing task result. Cmdexa cannot guarantee that ChatGPT restores the interrupted message. If the connection expired, reconnect the existing app. For missing tools, refresh its tool list in ChatGPT's app settings.
If the issue repeats, send the time, tool name, and task ID to kontakt@cmdexa.com. Do not send tokens, pairing codes, or raw credentials.
Linked means pairing was accepted by your account. It does not confirm the computer is online. Keep the Cmdexa service running on Windows and check the device state from ChatGPT. If the pairing code expired, create a fresh code in your account.
Open My account and select Revoke next to the device to stop its access. Remove the Cmdexa connection in ChatGPT if you no longer want to use it. If you installed with CmdexaSetup.exe, uninstall Cmdexa from Windows Installed apps. For PowerShell installations, the installed agent's uninstall command removes its service and scheduled tasks. Revoking access and uninstalling are separate actions.
Start with read-only access and a small task.
